Letters from a landlord, school notices, utility bills and forms from an office all share one problem: they arrive in a language you may not read well. Photographing the page gives you a fast way to understand what it says.

Step by step

1. Place the page flat on a table with even light and no shadows.
2. Take the photo straight from above so the lines are level.
3. Upload it, choose the document language and the language you want, then press Translate.
4. Compare the recognized text with the page. Fix any odd words before relying on the translation.

Multi-page documents

Translate one page at a time and keep the results in order, for example by pasting each into a single notes file. Label each section with the page number so you can find your place in the original later.

What this is good for

• Getting the gist of a letter or notice quickly.
• Finding dates, amounts and deadlines.
• Making a scanned page searchable.
• Checking what a form is asking for.

What it is not for

For contracts, legal filings, medical records, immigration papers or anything an authority will rely on, use this only to understand the outline. Official uses often require a certified translator, and a small error can have serious consequences. Please read our disclaimer.

Keep sensitive details safe
